Why is Hardinge in the Hard Turn production business?
We realize that current economic conditions may preclude companies from investing in the equipment and personnel needed to get involved with Hard Turning. There are many benefits to Hard Turning, and while it is our intent to sell machinery, we realize that many customers could make improvements to their businesses by initiating Hard Turn activities. Hard turn Production by Hardinge is one way in which these benefits can be realized without the initial outlay of capital.
What characteristics should I look for in my parts?
- Parts in the 58-68 Rc hardness range that are currently machined on grinders may become much less expensive to machine on a lathe. This is because Hard Turning can eliminate the use of expensive grinding tooling, long manufacturing cycles, costly support equipment, and lengthy setup times.
- Parts that are currently being hard turned today that you struggle with. Hardinge may be able to offer equipment benefits, along with the Hard Turning process experience that will lead you from your current struggles to success.
